Medical devices are related to the national economy and people's livelihood, and new quality productivity is an important direction in the national industrial strategy. The First (2024) China Medical Device New Quality Productivity Conference, jointly organized by the Medical Equipment Development Promotion Committee of the China Medical Education Association (hereinafter referred to as the Medical Equipment Committee) and the People's Hospital of Pudong New Area in Shanghai, is in response to the national call and meets the needs of the times. The main organizer attaches great importance to this conference and has received strong support from the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, the People's Government of Pudong New Area in Shanghai, and various media outlets. More than 200 people from major medical institutions, relevant universities, research institutions, and enterprises across the country attended the conference on site, with more than 3000 people attending online. Under the leadership of Yan Jianjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of Pudong New Area People's Hospital in Shanghai, the successful convening of this conference will further promote efficient communication and cooperation between medical research, industry, academia, and application.

Academician Huang Zhengming proposed five requirements for the new quality productivity of medical devices in his keynote report "On Innovation and Industrial Transformation in the New Era". Firstly, technology needs to innovate. A new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating its evolution, and new high-tech and innovative achievements can give birth to new productive forces. Secondly, the quality needs to be improved. Strengthen the relevant standards of the medical device industry, clarify product quality requirements, prioritize quality, and improve the overall level of the medical device industry. Thirdly, industries need to be upgraded. Optimize the industrial chain structure, optimize the approval process, promote regional coordinated development, and other aspects of cooperation. Fourthly, talent needs to be cultivated. Talents are the key to industry innovation and development. Cultivating relevant talents promotes the integration of industry, academia, and research, conducts interdisciplinary training, and provides practical opportunities. To cultivate talents with more practical experience and innovative abilities for the medical device industry. Fifthly, international cooperation is necessary. Strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, reduce research costs, improve research efficiency, focus on global high-quality resources, and promote sustainable innovation and development in the industry. The five requirements proposed by Academician Huang are the key to improving the new quality and productivity of the medical device industry.

Academician Xu Bo summarized the pain points, difficulties, and bottlenecks of innovation and transformation in China's medical device industry by analyzing the current situation of innovation and transformation in the context of the new era. Academician Xu Bo's team relies on the advantages of the China Association and multiple platforms to actively explore, practice, research, and demonstrate, and has established an efficient mechanism and model for medical device innovation and transformation, effectively solving many problems faced in the process of medical device innovation and transformation. They have extracted eight processes for medical device innovation and transformation, six indicators for measuring effective transformation, and five evaluation mechanisms for innovation and transformation. The scientific, practical, and effective nature of this mechanism plays an important role in demonstrating, leading, and driving the process of medical device innovation and transformation, and has received widespread attention from the industry and the whole society. The mechanism and model of medical device innovation and transformation mentioned by Academician Xu Bo have been highly recognized by the attendees.

More than ten renowned experts, including the Dean of the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology at Suzhou University, Academician Sun Lining of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Vice Chairman of the Medical Equipment Committee, and Executive Chairman of the Zhongguancun International Academician Alliance, Academician Wei Qiming, and Professor Liu Chengliang, Director of the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Control at the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Vice Dean of the Shanghai Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing, gave keynote speeches in their respective professional fields. Through active communication, interaction, and collision with experts and scholars from all over the country, they gained new understanding of new knowledge, new technologies, new methods, new systems, new mechanisms, and new models in the field of medical device innovation and transformation.
